Character Meet and Greet: Winter Wonderful!

Rules | FAQ | Premise | Applications

i.Main Street

Main Street has settled in for January, but there are still Christmas Decorations here and there to liven things up a little bit. Feel free to shop, mingle with the locals or explore the castle grounds.

Though after hours there are still some shadows that venture into the streets. Not everything here is as peaceful as it seems, and it’s best to defeat the corroded trespassers before they cause trouble.

ii. Cookie Overload

Do you like free cookies? Of course! Everyone does. After the Christmas Rush, there are plenty to go around, available only after the sun goes down to any hungry passerby. There are cookies of all styles and flavors. But watch out for the dreader sriracha cookie. It will make you breathe fire in three flavors and gives a bit of heartburn after, but the aftertaste will leave you craving more.

iii. The Eighth Wonder of the World
Now that the jungle has been purified, Apprentices can wander through to explore all the things the jungle has to offer. Take a (still somewhat shambly) riverboat and explore the river, or come to chat and trade with the villagers. (Shrunken heads, two for one special!) But beware. Even though the jungle is purified, it’s not a safe place. In this kingdom of animals, someone is always hungry.

iv. Pin It On Them
Some smugglers are hanging around the outskirts of New Orleans, selling dubious looking items from even more dubious looking bags. Do you buy from them? Haggle? Steal? (not recommended) Or quietly try to alert any sort of authority (good luck) The choice is yours.

v. Battle Mesa Gate
While the jungle may be purified, many other Kingdoms are still seething with corrosion. Erstwhile Apprentices will find such corrosion on the banks of the Rivers of America, right where the jungle river joins in. Fight corroded creatures on the shore and in the water and be careful, they are stronger than they look and cleverer than they seem.

III. The Eighth Wonder of the World

The jungle was quiet and, in some ways, familiar.

A small, red-haired woman wandered through the trees during the night, pale light peeking through foliage above to sparsely illuminate the ground before her. A strange world to wake up in, the clothes on her back and sword at her side, but nothing and no one else with her.

When had she started to need their company so much that she would miss it then?

Any wistful thoughts scattered to dust when she heard noise behind her, and with her frame tense her hand immediately went to the hilt at her left. Cautious, she looked over her shoulder, straining to see what might have been approaching, to hear it, or anything that might have given her some indication of what it was. Who it was.

I. Main Street

Scorpia searched through the various clothing items at the Emporium, keeping her tail cured close to her back to try and avoid hitting any of the other displays. Strictly speaking, she'd never gone shopping before, but she hadn't thought it would be that difficult to find something she could actually wear. Sizing was an issue, but more of one was the fact that she was rather... spiky. And had a tail. So finding something that she wouldn't destroy the moment she put it on was rather complicated, to say the least.

Still, she was determined! She'd get this 'being a normal person' thing down no matter what it took! But normal or not, she was still a large person with a hard exoskeleton, so when she turned partway around and bumped into the person near the next display over, it likely wouldn't be too comfortable for them. "Sorry, sorry!", she said, instantly apologetic as she moved to check on the person she'd bumped into. "Are you OK there? These displays are just really close together."

II. Cookie Overload

Ever seen a huge, buff scorpion woman looking like a kid in a candy store? Probably not. But after tonight, you won't be able to say that any more, when Scorpia hurried up, a cookie in each pincer and a huge grin on her face. "Hey, have you tried these?", she asked excitedly. "These are the best ration bars ever! I mean they're not exactly bar-shaped so that's a little weird, but they're amazing! And they're just giving them away! Can you believe it?"

Obi-Wan Kenobi || The Wars & The Stars

III. - 8th Wonder

He was still getting used to this thing that was the Force but ... wasn't. He could feel it, just the same, but he couldn't use it nearly as well. Which was why he'd gone out into the jungle to train, and come to find himself at the border where it abutted another piece of Corroded land ... and the dark magic still lingered. A few creeping vines had encroached on a tree from a nearby stone wall, and ... well ...

There may or may not be a Jedi hanging upside down by his ankles, a copious amount of vines around his legs, with his saber on the ground and out of reach. He's got one hand outstretched, his eyes closed, and is not really paying much attention to anyone or anything which might be approaching - or so it would seem.

IV. Pin It On Them

Obi's been conversing with the smugglers for a little while about some engine parts, hoping to help restore one of the jungle's steamships to something that will feel a bit less like it'll shake apart the moment he goes farther than the bazaar. He knows he's being swindled, but there's an easy enough fix for that.

"You know, I think I might take that converter after all," he says, as though he's convinced, and waves his hand a little, dismissively. "You shouldn't need to ask more than ten munny for it."

The smuggler glares. "I told you thirty. Clean the pond scum out yer ears."

Interesting. His brow creases ever so slightly and he strokes his moustache, then tries again. "Yes, but you shouldn't need more than ten."

"I don't care what you think I need, either pay the thirty, or scram."

He doesn't really want to betray the fact that he's only got twenty, but he's not sure his little boat will make it back without the part, and for the first time in years, the Force is not actually with him. At least, not in the way he was hoping it to be. So he tries a different tack, and taps you gently on the shoulder.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but may I borrow you for an outside opinion?"

V. Battle Mesa Gate

The Spark may not quite be the Force, but he's getting enough of a handle on it, and his lightsaber still works. Obi-Wan is working on pushing some troops back from the shoreline, swinging the weapon in wide, humming swaths, the heat of the blade making streaks of glass out of the sand where it touches the riverbank. Any enterprising Apprentices might be able to use them as impromptu weapons or obstacles if they need to. He's on the lookout for any royalty who might be able to purify the Corroded, since he really doesn't want to have to strike any down unless he has to.... but in looking for them, he leaves himself open, and a few other creatures close him in a circle.

He turns, noting the new arrivals to the battle, and gives them a grim smile. "Well, I've had worse odds..."

ii. Cookie overload

There is a trestle table set up with the most delicious cookies imaginable. A red and gold cloth has been swept over it to show the season. Eagle eyed observers may note that, on occasion, a single translucent tendril dripping with wet, will occasionally slide up from under the table cloth. The tendril will pap around on the table a moment before discovering a cookie, wrapping around it and slucking it back under the table. It's not too long before faint contented munching sounds can be heard.

iii. The Eighth Wonder of the World

Are you taking a cruise on a river boat? Or maybe just strolling along the shore? You may notice eyes watching you from the water, that quickly sink out of sight. Or you may feel a jolt on the back of your neck like a static shock and turn just in time to see a sneaky tendril whipping back under the water. You are not alone.

i: Practically Perfect in Every Way.

It hadn't taken Mary long to get acclimated to the idea of living in another world. She had, after all, been to several places far more unusual than this. The idea of fighting was still utterly distasteful but that would be sorted in time, she was sure.

For the time being she had much to learn about her new surroundings. She decided to pay the shops in town a visit. It had been a lovely day of browsing and meeting the locals. Of course she'd made a few small purchases for herself, including a lovely new pair of gloves. It was getting late and she really should be heading back to her flat. But a reflection caught her eye. She turned and smiled. Oh didn't she just look beautiful in the lamp light? She looked over her reflection, quite pleased with how smart her blue coat looked with that hat. One hand moved to touch her hair, ensuring it was still behaving properly.

As she was doing so, a shadow crept up the street towards her. It's difficult to tell if she noticed or if she was too focused on making sure her hat was cocked just so.

ii: A spoonful of sugar

While she didn't typically have much of a taste for sweets, one particular cookie caught her eye. It brought her back up second Tuesdays with a certain chimney sweep. So she accepted a few with a grateful nod. Finding an empty table at the cafe, she ordered a pot of tea and arranged the cookies on a plate. They were shortbread with raspberry jam. When the tea arrived she smiled at someone passing by, indicating the empty seat.

"Care to join me? It seems improper to take tea alone when there are so many people about."

v. The wind turns.

She may have reservations about fighting, but that didn't mean she couldn't help in some small way.

Mary stood a way back from the river bank watching the battle. If any of the creatures tried to move towards town they'd find themselves blown backwards by a strong wind. One of them lashed out at her, a sharp tendril of water cutting through the air. She stepped back just enough to avoid it, glaring sharply at the offending creature. "Really. How incredibly rude of you."

[Still can't if she is better suited for Monster or Mystic class yet.]

I.Main Street

Well, this town had a similar feel to Velaris, though much more small and quaint. Which is not a bad thing. Every now and then Amren likes small and quaint. She knows the other members of the Night Court would enjoy it, though she is not sure if the town would enjoy them. Especially with three certain male Illyrians and their antics. Oh well, they're not here now so she doesn't have to worry about that. For now she will enjoy her time away from her companions.

So, the petite High Fey looking woman continued her stroll down the street. Every now and then she will stop to look into a shop window before continuing on her way. She will stop for a noticeably longer time if the window was displaying jewelry. Especially jewelry with a lot of gems on it.

III. The Eighth Wonder of the World

Amren smack her neck to kill the latest mosquito that tried to bite her. "Cauldron! Is there no end to these pests?"

Maybe it was a bad idea to get on the riverboat. All she wanted to do was explore more of this world, and this is the price she is paying. The state of the boat should have been her first clue on what to expect.

Priss S. Asagiri | Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040

[personal profile] no_wing_knight 2019-12-30 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I. Main Street

Priss wasn't exactly happy about being stuck in another world. Especially a world that feels like she walked in on some American historical reenactment. She wasn't one to have all the latest tech, hell she lived in a trailer with the basics back home, but she misses her motorcycle. Horse drawn carriages where definitely not her thing.

At least there were no boomers or AD Police around. She would be very surprised if a berserk robot started rampaging here and a bunch of incompetent cops started chasing after it. She wasn't sure if she would laugh at the sight or not.

For now, it was night and she was just wondering the streets, looking for something to do. "Damn. Is there at least a bar or club around here?"

V. Battle Mesa Gate

And these must be the Corroded that the old man told her about. In away they weren't that much different from the rogue boomers of her world. Only they had a lot less metal bits. And here she was, without her hardsuit. At least she had a metal staff though, which she swung quite hard at the creature's head. Behind her there were a couple of civilians who got caught a little too close to the action. She looked over her shoulder to see them.

"What are you idiots doing!?" She yelled at them. "Get the Hell out of here!" Of course this leaves her open for the Corroded that she was fighting to get up and get ready to strike her.

i: Main St

The sun has gone down. The lamps have been lit. Everyone was settled in for the night...

Almost.

A tiny figure was waddling down Main St. He didn't seem to notice or even care about any of the shops or decorations. No. He seemed to be following a frog that was hopping in front of him. He took a few toddling steps and reached out. The frog leaped out of the way just in time. Making a small irritated noise, the child repeated the process, hoping to capture his prey.

i. Main Street

With the streets and shoppes still decorated in all their seasonal finery it was almost incomprehensible to think about what further dangers could await a hapless traveler in the ever-lengthening shadows. Still, Amelia always felt that it was prudent to be prepared for anything so she scoured the marketplace seeking supplies to add to her accouterments. It was a pity that she hadn't arrived with her belt of tools, but she had acquired a new one that should be serviceable. Some of the other materials were proving more difficult.

"You don't have it?" Amelia asked the shopkeeper she was currently standing before. "Then where else might I procure a bottle of laudanum?" The answer she received was less than satisfactory, and she made no secret of her disappointment. "Very well- I suppose it can't be helped. Really." The elixir had multiple uses that covered a wide range of ailments. Replacing it would not be easy.

She then proceeded to seek the other items on her list which included smelling salts, a pistol, matches, a water tight container, candles, a length of rope, and a small bottle of brandy.

II. Cookie Overload

"Good gad, I should feel relieved that Ramses isn't here." Amelia commented offhandedly as the cookies were being passed out all around her. In fact she had to wave away a few offerings made to herself as well. "No matter what I tell that boy about putting strange pastries in his mouth he always finds a way to defy me." Though she spoke with a note of exasperation in her voice, there was an underlying level of affection. Unlike some women, Amelia was not as demonstrative with her feelings but that didn't mean that she didn't hold her family in high regard.

"No thank you, I'll not say it again."

IV. Pin It On Them

With her parasol hooked over one arm and the corner of her lips quirking upwards into a sedate smirk Amelia gave a scrutinizing look to the wares being presented to her. The unsavory fellow before her was not all that different than some of the merchants she had dealt with in the Khan el-Khalili in Cairo when she was seeking to purchase the dubiously acquired papyri. In other words, she thought she knew his type and Amelia always considered herself an excellent judge of character.

Unfortunately he didn't seem to have anything that she required... though.. yes some of these powdery looking substances might be useful for pain relief or as sedatives their contents and concentrations couldn't be determined with certainty. "Is this all that you have?" Projecting ambivalence with the current selection. "Perhaps you keep something more interesting in the back...?" After a shifty glance or two, the peddler secured the current offerings and then retreated inside briefly. In the interim Amelia took her leave.

The Reluctant Dragon

[personal profile] pineapple_upsidedowncake 2020-01-14 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Mainstreet

Plopped down in the middle of main street, and utterly refusing to move was a rather.... rotund dragon. Yes a dragon. The dragon was muttering to itself while breathing out small plumes of smoke.

"How could they possibly insist that I must fight?
It isn't done, it just isn't right!
I much disdain fighting to speech
And shouldn't the choice belong to each?
I simply will not, cannot, would not do it.
And I say, I say, that is quite all there is to it!" the dragon said with a small huff of irritated flame at the empty sky.

Cookies
Oh! Now wasn't this a delight?! The dragon set up a lovely little picnic near the delightful person handing out the free snacks and offered tea. It was quite the lovely spot, and one always did adore shared sweets, of course! And so the dragon sat, dipping the rather spiciest of the cookies into tea, and occasionally pausing to blow into a flute that otherwise lay nearby to welcome small birds, which were all fed crumbs of the cookies that were far too small for meaty dragon hands to handle. Not that the dragon was having the least trouble with a delicate tea cup, mind.

Toby Hamee - Animorphs - spoilers

[personal profile] free_and_strong 2020-02-15 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
iii.

Toby was still a little unsure about this place. Her people needed her back home. But there would not even be a back home if the people here failed. She really needed to be in three places at once, or to not be the only Seer. But that was not reality. She slashed a tree with the blades on her wrist, catching the falling bark with her other hand. She was the one Seer. That meant she could lead the Free colony on Earth, she could lead the newly born race on the Home World, or she could be here. One of those choices had been made for her. And now she had to decide to stay here or return. She slashed off and collected more bark. She shook her head, horns atop her skull stripping back from the branch above her.

She would have to hope that the human Jake and Tobais she was named for would look after her people. They needed her more here, she concluded. They would never understand, even if she could go back and explain. The humans would, the Andalite would, the hawk would. At least, intellectually. But her own people? Never. She was, to their understanding, abandoning them. She hoped that they would pick a leader, survive. They had to survive. They were what was left if the Arn failed. A few dozen free Hork-Bajir. That was all there were. They had to become a free race again. Unbeholden to Yeerks, and now unbeholden to Arn or Humans or Andlaites.

But to be free they had to be alive.

"Toby Hamee will stay," she told the tree she was stripping bark from. She closed her eyes, hurting from the choice, but knowing there was no other choice to make...
