i.Main Street

Main Street has settled in for January, but there are still Christmas Decorations here and there to liven things up a little bit. Feel free to shop, mingle with the locals or explore the castle grounds.

Though after hours there are still some shadows that venture into the streets. Not everything here is as peaceful as it seems, and it’s best to defeat the corroded trespassers before they cause trouble.

ii. Cookie Overload

Do you like free cookies? Of course! Everyone does. After the Christmas Rush, there are plenty to go around, available only after the sun goes down to any hungry passerby. There are cookies of all styles and flavors. But watch out for the dreader sriracha cookie. It will make you breathe fire in three flavors and gives a bit of heartburn after, but the aftertaste will leave you craving more.

iii. The Eighth Wonder of the World
Now that the jungle has been purified, Apprentices can wander through to explore all the things the jungle has to offer. Take a (still somewhat shambly) riverboat and explore the river, or come to chat and trade with the villagers. (Shrunken heads, two for one special!) But beware. Even though the jungle is purified, it’s not a safe place. In this kingdom of animals, someone is always hungry.

iv. Pin It On Them
Some smugglers are hanging around the outskirts of New Orleans, selling dubious looking items from even more dubious looking bags. Do you buy from them? Haggle? Steal? (not recommended) Or quietly try to alert any sort of authority (good luck) The choice is yours.

v. Battle Mesa Gate
While the jungle may be purified, many other Kingdoms are still seething with corrosion. Erstwhile Apprentices will find such corrosion on the banks of the Rivers of America, right where the jungle river joins in. Fight corroded creatures on the shore and in the water and be careful, they are stronger than they look and cleverer than they seem.

Mal had been watching, amused. She had been out this way on patrol, and had stopped when she saw this little scene. So when he tapped her and asked for her help, she just grinned. "Sure. In my opinion you're both really bad at negotiating. But you're worse than he is," nodding to the smuggler as the he.

The smuggler laughed at Mal's comment, which made Obi-Wan's moustache bristle ever so slightly in discontent. "So you think thirty munny is a fair price for a part that looks like a sarlaac teethed on it, then, young lady?"

"I think that if you want to pay less money, no matter what it is actually worth, you need to find something they value even more than money, and offer that." She leaned close to the smuggler with a very Isle smirk. "Like say, getting out of this with their lives..." And she might be palming something expensive looking - comparatively - while playing the intimidation card.

That intimidation card was not one he liked to see out on the table, especially not when played by one so young, and paired with theft to boot. Obi-Wan frowned.

"And I think there are better ways to achieve one's goals, young one. Sir? You can keep the part after all, you'll need that thirty munny by the look of things. If the boat breaks down I'm sure I can find alternative ways back to Main Street."

She rolled her eyes and leaned back, tossing the part she paled in one hand. "Now this, for example, looks important. Maybe you'd like to buy it back? Say... forty?"

The smuggler's face crinkled and warped with sudden rage. "You little whelp!" He roared, drawing a dagger.

Obi-Wan reached out quickly, calmly, and caught the other man's wrist, even as he was looking over at the ramshackle boat tied to the dock with critical eyes.

"Now, now. There's another solution here, friend." He gestured to the boat: which, yes, he'd borrowed as an Apprentice, from the Kingdom. But he had a feeling that Merlin might have a bit of leniency if the situation were explained. Also, a plan. "How much do you suppose the boat is worth? Not as a whole, mind you. Look a bit beyond at the sum of the parts. There's a serviceable motor, the rudders are new, and plenty of good wood. Plus the brass for the nameplate. I'm sure a smith would pay to have that for smelting down."

The new perspective caused a spark behind the trader's eyes, and he smiled, showing off a mouthful of self-neglect and greed. "I'd say that's at least worth eighty."

"So then ... perhaps your part back from the young lady, that piece I was considering, and we're square?"

He snorted like the man in the robes had gone mad. "Then all you've got's a converter and a stupid little brat."

"Have I? Hmm. Seems a moment ago all I had was a broken boat worth nothing. Now I've got something worth eighty munny. Perspective is a funny thing. But if you'd rather --"

"No, no." He took the part from Mal and shoved the converter into Obi-Wan's hands. "This is fine."

"Well, then, it's been a pleasure doing business with you." He pocketed the part and took out the ten munny he'd been willing to pay for the part, offering it to Mal. "Now, either you have a boat of your own, or you know another way back. This should cover my fare or a good set of directions, will it not?"

She took the munny. "Helping you get back is free, the munny I'll take as payment for cramping my style. You're almost as bad as they guy in the candy shop. Look, I wasn't going to actually kill the little punk," she said, walking as she spoke. "But he didn't need to know that and you didn't need to step in. I was handling it. A good bluff is worth more than a hundred boats. Look you're new here, right? Trust those of us who have been risking our lives here for months to know how to handle this place, okay?"
