Character Meet and Greet

I. Exploring Main Street! Take a trip through a little town taken straight from 1890's America. Visit the shops, dine at the restaurants- but don't forget you are here on a mission. As an Apprentice, you will need to gather some supplies. A weapon, or tool for producing magic.
But we understand if that corn dog cart on Market Street is your first stop.
II. Apprentice Class 101! Practice your spell casting and weaponship on the open commons behind the Firehouse. Sparring, casting or just general confusion abound here. Try not to hit anything or...anyone, the paint on the infirmary is still drying.
III. Look out! A level 2 corroded monster has managed to get onto Main Street! Protect the citizens and defeat the cur, and please watch the damage, the paint is still wet!
IV. One Little Spark! Go ahead, show us the strength of your imagination and come up with your own scenarios. Just, stay out of the Corroded Lands...if possible.
(The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI
Sylvando walked down main street with a spring in his step and an ice cream cone in his hand, looking at everything around him with obvious delight. Really, this place was wonderful! If this mysterious creator who designed the place ever turned up, he would be first in line to shake the man's hand, and probably give him a big hug. Yes, there was still work to be done and there was that whole nasty 'Corrosion' business they'd been called here to deal with, but really this was just the sort of place he'd always dreamed of building himself back home; a venue from which he could make the whole world smile.
He would need to hit up the weapons shop a little later, but right now? It was far too lovely a day to be wasted thinking about such things. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the ice cream was positively delicious, and... ooh, were those souvenir hats? They looked so adorable!
Apprentice Class!
Well now, didn't this bring back memories? All that was missing was his Papi standing off to one side with a serious expression directing things. Hopefully in a place that was all about imagination, though, the practice sessions would be a little less dull.
He drew the slim, elegant sword from the scabbard on his belt, standing ready to begin. "Well then, darling, let's begin," he said. "What will it be first, hmm?"
Look out!
Well there was an all too familiar sight; people fleeing from a monster that was threatening them. True, it wasn't quite the same as the sorts of beasties they got back home, but he suspected that the method of dealing with it would be much the same. He drew his sword, jumping up on a convenient barrel to call out to the monster. "Oh no you don't, honey," he said. "Unless you want to be carrying those claws home in a bag, I suggest you go home and stop bothering these nice people."
Look out
"Look can I... do anything? Fetch anyone? I'm not terribly useful, I'm afraid."
Re: Look out
"Oh don't worry, darling," he said. "Fighting monsters and defending the innocent is all in a day's work for the Great Sylvando. Though if you could help make sure the residents get to safety and maybe round up another apprentice or two, that would be a big help."
Rofl oops I have no idea where that assumption came from
"Right. Safety. Rounding up...." He's not very good at this sort of thing, even if he really should be. "Are you sure you'll be alright by yourself."
TBF it *is* a possible mistake to make with Sylvando if one is distracted. XD
"I may be without my usual entourage, but it'll take more than this one hairy beastie to do me in," Sylvando said. Now if it called for help, then he might have a problem, since he didn't have a whip handy to let him hit multiple targets at once, but just the one? He could handle it. Probably.
The feline-looking beast, meanwhile, seemed to have noticed them and snarled, beginning to stalk in their direction. "Oh-oh, looks like someone's grumpy," he said. "Best get to it then, darling; I'll handle things here, hmm?"

Apprentice Class!
"You could start by not calling me, darling."
He lifted a dark wing, regarding the man with cool shade cloaked eyes before, glancing towards the drawn weapon.
"So you're a adventurer or... hero, what ever they call it. Are you actually an good with a sword?"
Crowley bopped his head towards a nearby shrub.
"Why not try your blade on that? See if you can cleave it in two."
Re: Apprentice Class!
He glanced to where the winged being had indicated where a pathway that led into the training courtyard was bounded by a pair of relatively thin, semi-conical shrubs. Sylvando felt it likely he was referring to the one nearer to him, but he eyed them critically, mentally gauging the thickness and flexibility of the shrubs and the strength and sharpness of his blade. Yes, that could certainly work.
"A sword is hardly a tool for gardening," he said. "But if you insist..." Stepping forward toward the shrubs, he took up a stance, then gave a quick slash of the sword, neatly lopping off top of the first shrub at about his waist level. But he wasn't done; almost before the top of the first shrub had finished falling, he spun gracefully on his heel and sliced the top off of the second shrub in an identical manner.
Both shrubs now flat-topped, he relaxed his stance, turning back to face the winged being. "There," he said. "At least that will give the gardener something to work with. And you may want to watch sitting on statues like that, by the by; where I'm from, certain ones have a tendency to come to life, and when they do, they're very unhappy".
no subject
"That was too easy. I had thought getting you to deface private property might have been a little more challenging."
no subject
"'Defacing'?", Sylvando said. "No, no, no. If it was just the one, it might have been 'defacing', but this way they still match, so it still looks like it was intentionally that way, you see? If the gardener really doesn't like it, I suppose I could help him plant some new ones, though really, it's likely only a matter of time til they're damaged again; there's a reason we didn't train in the gardens back home, after all."

"Well, then, consider me Lady Lydia of Maitland Keep, at your service." She rolled up the sleeves of her long black dress, tulle and webbing trailing everywhere as though her Goth Fairy Godmother had gone a bit overboard, and produced her wand from the camera bag at her side.
"What's the plan?"
no subject
"For now, my dear Lady Lydia, if you could come up with a distraction for our big hairy friend here, it will be much appreciated," he said. "Normally, that's a bit more my area, but The Great Sylvando is nothing if not versatile."
At any rate they seem to have drawn the attention of the vaguely feline monster, so whatever they planned to do, it would likely be a good idea to do it quickly.

Apprentice Class!
Re: Apprentice Class!
"Now then... en garde!", he said. Taking up a combat stance, he made the first move, striking out at the other man. It wouldn't be that difficult a blow to block, but Sylvando wanted to get a feel for the other's skill level before he decided how much he needed to step it up.
Re: Apprentice Class!
Malcolm rolls his eyes and blocks the blade with ease using his own momentum to try and spin his opponent. "Do you think I'm a child," he said with a snarky bite in his voice. "Please I was fighting children younger than you twenty years ago. Give me a challenge."
Re: Apprentice Class!
Sylvando struck again, much quicker and much more precisely this time, and with a surprising amount of strength for his build. Though he was still smiling, he was clearly no longer simply playing. Malcolm wanted to see what someone trained by Don Rodrigo could do? He would get his wish.
Re: (The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI
Mal's brows went up into her now very blond hair. Not that one could easily tell, with how pale she was. But still. That was an almost impressive show of bravery there. Well, never one to be out done, Mal hopped up onto a barrel of her own. Never mind that she didn't have her spell book and hadn't started apprentice training here. She was an Isle kid. She grew up most of her life being the biggest and baddest without magic, and she hadn't grown so soft that she couldn't stand up to a monster or two here. Especially given her bag was currently loaded with apples.
She opened a compartment in the side to grab out two, tossing one to her other hand. Apples were great. They were wonderful. They were food. They were also... projectiles. Let the other guy make a big speech. Mal was throwing an apple right at the thing's face. She aimed to be, well, the cause of the apple in its eye.
Re: (The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI
"That's the spirit, darling!", he called out as her apple struck the vaguely feline monster right in the eye, making it yowl in mingled pain and anger and paw at its face. "An apple a day keeps the monsters away!"
Though a sword certainly didn't hurt either, and he took advantage of the situation to leap into the fray. Literally. He leaped from the top of the barrel, bringing down his sword in a long slash across the monster's back and giving it a whole new reason to yowl, before ducking nimbly away from its claws as it lashed out at him.
"Another one, if you please, Miss?", he called. Best to distract the beastie again before it had a chance to focus too much on him...

Re: (The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI
And the brief fit of gagging and coughing gave Sylvando just the opening he needed. With the creature thoroughly distracted, he slashed out with his sword, cutting deeply into its right front leg. Combined with the force of its coughing, the now off-balance creature staggered, trying to rebalance itself on three legs.
"Good shot!," he called out to her. "A few more like that, and we've got this in the bag!"

Re: (The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI
Elan might have forgotten his desperate mission at the sight of an adorable little lute. His own lute was back with the rest of his loot. Wherever that was. Probably Haley had it all. That was fine. Except that he really wanted this lute, and didn't seem to have any copper or silver coins. Again, probably his girlfriend took them. Which was fine. Except he really really wanted that lute. And stealing it would be wrong. Probably. But he's a Bard, and when all else failed there was one way to earn money! He asked to borrow one of the novelty hats, then put it on the ground, open side up and began singing.

wow, added, not handed, lol. Also wow he sounds like a happy Mettaton, lol.
That's not entirely an inaccurate description of him, given what I know of Mettaton. XD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogNHObCZjwU Some spoilers but yeah.... He and Met would get along.
They probably would, yes. XD
