i.Main Street

Main Street has settled in for January, but there are still Christmas Decorations here and there to liven things up a little bit. Feel free to shop, mingle with the locals or explore the castle grounds.

Though after hours there are still some shadows that venture into the streets. Not everything here is as peaceful as it seems, and it’s best to defeat the corroded trespassers before they cause trouble.

ii. Cookie Overload

Do you like free cookies? Of course! Everyone does. After the Christmas Rush, there are plenty to go around, available only after the sun goes down to any hungry passerby. There are cookies of all styles and flavors. But watch out for the dreader sriracha cookie. It will make you breathe fire in three flavors and gives a bit of heartburn after, but the aftertaste will leave you craving more.

iii. The Eighth Wonder of the World
Now that the jungle has been purified, Apprentices can wander through to explore all the things the jungle has to offer. Take a (still somewhat shambly) riverboat and explore the river, or come to chat and trade with the villagers. (Shrunken heads, two for one special!) But beware. Even though the jungle is purified, it’s not a safe place. In this kingdom of animals, someone is always hungry.

iv. Pin It On Them
Some smugglers are hanging around the outskirts of New Orleans, selling dubious looking items from even more dubious looking bags. Do you buy from them? Haggle? Steal? (not recommended) Or quietly try to alert any sort of authority (good luck) The choice is yours.

v. Battle Mesa Gate
While the jungle may be purified, many other Kingdoms are still seething with corrosion. Erstwhile Apprentices will find such corrosion on the banks of the Rivers of America, right where the jungle river joins in. Fight corroded creatures on the shore and in the water and be careful, they are stronger than they look and cleverer than they seem.

"What's a 'holiday'?" Yep, she totally just asked that, and is entirely serious.

The demon shrugged.

"There's lots of 'em. The last one, was a day when breathers get together, eat too much food, give each other crap they asked for."

Scorpia considered that for a moment. "So it's kind of like a party?", she said. The 'eating too much food' part fit, anyway. "Because I totally know what those are. I've even been to one!" Well, two if one counted Princess Prom, but that doubled as a mission. And she... kind of blew it up.

Beetlejuice rocked back on his heels and bounced onto his toes. "Sorta. Except, where a party is just like one house? A holiday is pretty much everyone. Unless they don't like that holiday and are holding out for a different one."

Blowing up a Prom would have absolutely impressed the demon. It also would have been relayed to Lydia as something that had to happen, with many rounds of please, please, please and a full-on Powerpoint presentation about why it was a great idea.

Honestly, even barely knowing Claire Brewster at this canon point? She'd agree. Carry on.

Good thing it impressed someone, because Frosta sure wasn't impressed.

"Ah, yes, I see," Scorpia said. Well, she kind of saw. OK, mostly not. But still! "'Holidays' sound like fun. Do they happen often around here?"

"Yeah, I think there's a breather holiday every...month? Something like that."

"Wow, that often?", Scorpia said. "Really?" She'd been expecting maybe one or two a year, at most, but fun stuff to do every month? Sign her up! "You know, I'm really starting to like this place."

"It's not the worst place I've ever been dragged against my will."

Because Lydia was there. He would have been a lot less compliant if she hadn't been there.

"It's definitely not the worst for me either," Scorpia agreed. "Not even in the top five. Though I'm not really usually dragged places so that might have something to do with it."

"That's because you're built like a tank," Beetlejuice said cheerfully.

"Heh, well can't argue with you there," Scorpia said, doing a quick flex to demonstrate. "That's scorpions for you. Strong, brave, loyal, great at giving hugs... Yep, I've got a lot going for me."

"How about you?", she asked. "What're some things you're good at?"

That question threw Beetlejuice for a loop. Normally, it wasn't a hard question, although his mother's voice still rang in his ears that he was 'good at screwing up, that's what he's good at'

At least back home he could brag he had more powers than most demons, and that there was little he couldn't do when summoned, but...

This place wasn't home.

After a moment, he collected himself, although there was a dusty purple tint to his hair.

"Music. I play a mean ukulele, and I'm a great dancer."

"Wow that's cool!", Scorpia said. "There's no music in the Horde. Or dancing either. But I totally know what they are! I heard and saw some at Princess Prom." Right before she kinda blew it up. Oops.

"And you can change your hair color too!", she said, indicating his now more purplish hair. "That's a neat trick. Can you teach me to do that?"

"Jeeze, no music? That sucks."

Learning how to play was something that kept him from absolutely losing his mind during his banishment.

Beetlejuice glanced up, even though he couldn't see the chaotic mess that was his hair. He wondered why in the Netherworld his hair liked to broadcast his emotions to the general public. It certainly had never done him any good, aside from getting yelled at by his mother.

"Hah, yeah, that just kinda happens. I can't control it. Wish I could."
