"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

I. Exploring Main Street! Take a trip through a little town taken straight from 1890's America. Visit the shops, dine at the restaurants- but don't forget you are here on a mission. As an Apprentice, you will need to gather some supplies. A weapon, or tool for producing magic.

But we understand if that corn dog cart on Market Street is your first stop.

II. Apprentice Class 101! Practice your spell casting and weaponship on the open commons behind the Firehouse. Sparring, casting or just general confusion abound here. Try not to hit anything or...anyone, the paint on the infirmary is still drying.

III. Look out! A level 2 corroded monster has managed to get onto Main Street! Protect the citizens and defeat the cur, and please watch the damage, the paint is still wet!

IV. One Little Spark! Go ahead, show us the strength of your imagination and come up with your own scenarios. Just, stay out of the Corroded Lands...if possible.

That was a lot of words and most of them didn't make any sense. The only thing he could think of that comparable to this kind of magic was, ugh, Azriaphale's faux magic. 'Magic' joke powder? He remembered that stuff... the joke had been on him, left him sneezing for a week. Rain repellent hats were just hats with a fancy title. A tornado tent in a bottle just sounded like unrelated words all strung together. Bloody daggers, self cleaning swords, fire rings... fantasy.

"Uh huh... Do you have any actual powers or do you only deal in props?"

There was a roll of his gold eyes. They were working on that. Well, to be honest, he was starting to give up on that here.

"Near as I can tell, no one here has any actual powers, now do we? So not seeing how that matters. And as I have more muscle mass, sharper teeth, and sharper claws than anyone else here? Not all that concerned," he said, dryly.

"Did I say you should be concerned? I never even thought you should be concerned. I was only wondering if you were the magic wand and potion type or if you used to be able to snap your fingers and have magic happen."

Props or no props.

"Here, everything's changed... I don't now how they expect us to save anything without our powers."

"Oh, well before here? I'm a Pervect, we're educated generally in weapons, magic, and tool use. So yeah. Before here I was fairly well known in some circles. Had a number of apprentices in my day," he said allowing himself a few short seconds of reminiscing before shaking his head. "But that's the past." The distant past, but he didn't need to know that. "Right now we need to bite the bullet and deal with the cards we were dealt. I've saved bigger kingdoms with less. We keep our heads, we'll be just fine."

"Pervect? Wassat?"

This unusual word being 'What is that?' but all scrunched into one sound.

Crowley shrugged lazily and deeply enough that his neck crackled, loosening some of the kinks.

"Yeaa... about that. They did a really bad job at picking heroes. I mean, whoo, really bad. I'm not really the saving type..."

"Pervect. Demons from Perv." He grinned. So far he hadn't had to break anyone's teeth, for misaying his species name. Which made this a good day in his books. "I've done my fair share of saving, though I'm less inclined to work for people who steal from me and haven't yet discussed their offer for payment."

"Demons from Perv!?"

Ok, he might have said the name of the species correctly but he has to laugh now.

"Get out! You're pulling my wing! Your people aren't really called that?"

"Pervects? Yes, we actually are." He grinned. "Beats the %@!* out of some of the other dimension names out there, though." He grinned. "The kid, Skeeve? He's a Khlad. Klah is a &*@# of a place to get trapped for a decade, let me tell you. What they call ale isn't fit to wash in."

He drank it anyhow, he just complained the whole time.

"I suppose that depends on your definition of scale. Besides, not like we had a choice. My now dead Ex best friend had stolen my powers, and the kid was just learning basic magic. No way I was trusting him with Dimensional travel. By the time we got ourselves a D-hopper..." He shook his head. "Long story, but as bad as the ale was, gotta admit, he had a cushy job there for a while. And we got some friends to bring us ale and the occasional crisis to keep things interesting after a bit. And tell you what, Tanda certainly keeps things interesting."

"Is that how you ended up here, D-hoppered yourself right into another dimension you can't escape from?"

Crowley looked skeptically around the place.

"They better have decent ale."

"Not quite, but therein lies the tale and if you're treating for ale I am happy to tell it," he said with a toothy grin.

The kid would be grinning or worrying about then, but then he knew that 'therein lies the tale' was generally what Ahhz said not long before he either made a new ally or conned some rube out of his unicorn and cash in exchange for a rusted old sword with fake jewels. But either way, Aahz always did alright in the end, and often made them some new connections.

"I might be able to manage that, if I can talk the bar keepers into being reasonable."

Funds were something of an issue at the moment, but he always had his charm and persuasive abilities to fall back on.

Odd, Aahz often paid in much the same. Well great demon minds and all that. He gave him a good hard clap on the back. "Lead on, then."

Lead on he did! Not to any old pub though, he found a fancy bar down by the riverfront whose led hostess apparently had a thing for red hair. A little flirting, some persuasion... and a temptation here or there and they soon had a table out on the deck and a free drink!

Crowley held out his drink.

"Cheers."

"Cheers?" he asked holding up his drink and eyeing it. He waved the waitress back over. "Sorry, but we asked for drinks, not shots. You got anything bigger back there? Nevermind, I'll look for myself. You two flirt." He let himself back behind the bar.

The young waitress looked a little uncertain about that but Crowley picked up the larger demon's untouched cup and held it out to her.

"Apparently my new friend is a big drinker." He smiled and favored the lady with one of his almost mesmerizing unblinking stares, "Why not sit with me and have his drink? It'll be fine. We are the only ones here."

Temptation offered the lady had a choice, go after the large demon and stop him drinking the place dry or sit with the man wearing sunglasses indoors and enjoy a drink.

Aahz grinned toothily at them and vanished into the cast members' only area. He came back with a mop bucket. That needed to be cleaned. "Here we go, you could go ahead and fill that up. Strongest you got. Thanks." Now the smile was almost charming. As charming as a Pervect could be to what seems to arguably be a Khald.

"A dirty bucket?"

Crowley spoke with a disgusted tone of voice before the waitress could.

"You couldn't just ask her to fill your glass up more than once?"

Almost horrified he continued.

"There are still bubbles in there!"

He shrugged. "One thing I learned from most dimensions? Their ale is generally indistinguishable from the sludge at the bottom of any given bucket. But if you've got a clean bucket I wouldn't mind swapping if your stomach is too weak to watch me drink from this."

"This isn't 'ale, not the stuff you drink just because it's that or nothing, this is actually a very fine alcohol. You're going to do it a disservice drinking it out of an old rusty bucket!"

Unfortunately he was fresh out of nice clean buckets. Never though he would have need of one today.

Crowley was about to say something else when the waitress saved the day. She took the disgusting old bucket and hid it away in the back where it belonged and then picked a rather large trophy off the shelf. This wasn't really meant to be a glass one served ale in but desperate times... She filed this vessel up with ale and then gave into the temptation of sitting with them for a break of her own.

"Well done beautiful." A snakey smile at their host, "Prevented a nasty situation there."

Cause watching anyone drink out of that bucket, no thanks!

You are fine, happens to us all.

[personal profile] situational_ethics 2019-06-30 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it wasn't his trophy from Jahk, but there was a status to drinking from any trophy, really. Still, it was quite a bit on the small side for drink. He lifted it with ease, and tossed it back, finishing more than half the liquid in one long and truly impressive sip.

True :D

Following suit Crowley raised his glass again, clinked it against the waitress's and the both of them joined in on the 'toast' too.
