Looking after the injuries of a demon most definitely wasn't in the job description of an angel. Thwarting was. He was weak, he should have been thwarted, and the world would have been down one evil influence. Crowley knew that and yet he allowed Azriaphale to get by on the lie as he found himself temporarily unable to do anything to further upset him.
It might have been the fond touch silencing him.
