"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

I. Exploring Main Street! Take a trip through a little town taken straight from 1890's America. Visit the shops, dine at the restaurants- but don't forget you are here on a mission. As an Apprentice, you will need to gather some supplies. A weapon, or tool for producing magic.

But we understand if that corn dog cart on Market Street is your first stop.

II. Apprentice Class 101! Practice your spell casting and weaponship on the open commons behind the Firehouse. Sparring, casting or just general confusion abound here. Try not to hit anything or...anyone, the paint on the infirmary is still drying.

III. Look out! A level 2 corroded monster has managed to get onto Main Street! Protect the citizens and defeat the cur, and please watch the damage, the paint is still wet!

IV. One Little Spark! Go ahead, show us the strength of your imagination and come up with your own scenarios. Just, stay out of the Corroded Lands...if possible.

Fair point!

"No one's going to get hurt!"

Had he still his demonic powers he could have been more sure of that but he did still have reasons to think that was true.

"The park's closed, the street sweeper will be by here any time now. It's all mechanical."

Now had the park still been open and the street below filled with kids, he probably wouldn't have tried for that 3-pointer basket. Wouldn't have been any fun if some kid had gotten cut on the glass.

Oh that was a beautiful sentiment. Crowley was trying so very hard to make this work. But it was more the truth than a lie. Maybe not reality, but the kind of reality Crowley wanted it to be. Just the two of them making something new in a strange new world. He wanted it to be that way too. At least a part of him did. To throw off everything and just live here like this, experimenting, discovering, becoming.

But it was terrifying, too. Terrifying in a way he couldn't explain. Like he could see the chasm and falling into it would be easy as thought and then what--? He knew that he was a terrible angel, hedonistic and too much given to small pleasures of humanity. And while he might have come close to that line and craned his neck to look over it, he had never crossed it.

And he couldn't.

Not even for Crowley's sake.

Especially not for Crowley's sake because it wouldn't even be for the demon, but for himself. And for that measure of selfishness, he would truly be damned.

But he couldn't bring himself to say so. To destroy that hope. That dream. An angel shouldn't actively destroy happiness, should they? Even if it did belong to a demon. He smiles instead, leaning forward to nuzzle Crowley's throat and then just rests there a moment, breathing in the scent of him.

"It sounds wonderful, my dear."

But his eyes never open.

"Don't do that..." A slow, very deliberate shake of the head, "I don't do front rows at magic shows."

That seat would remain entirely empty if he had his way! It would be difficult to best the critic if he wouldn't even bother to show up.

"Do I look like an angel?"

Offended he flexed his black wings, not thinking that the wings of angels and demons did look remarkably alike when carved in the white stone those statues Sylvando had seen before were.

"I'm Crowley, Anthony Crowley. A demon, not an angel."

"A wish?"

Wish angels. Huh, there was an interesting idea. If only magic wasn't stripped away here. It would be tempting to er, tempt the little angel into granting a few wishes.

"Any kind of wish?"

"Yeah. Great story."

The words were clipped as he waffled between pretending this was ok and storming off in a rage. If he too could just close his eyes he might forget that growing feeling of pain and rejection in his stomach but he couldn't. This moment was beginning to feel a lot like this room, all pink and perfect, built to fulfill some one's fantasy of what a Princess's chamber might look like... but it was all fake. It wasn't a room for royalty and spending a few vacation nights in it would not turn you into a princess.

"But that's all it is, isn't it? It could never be anything else..."

He stirred, untangling himself from the angel with remarkable ease. Tired and still more drunk than sober he teetered dangerously as he stood up far too quickly from the bed.

"I don't need this! And I don't need you!"

These were the lies, spoken in a fit of exasperation to hide the pain. Then he did stumble though he managed to catch himself on the table before he had an unhappy meeting with the ground. His shades were resting here on the table's surface and in one quick motion he grabbed them and slid them over his eyes. Eyes far too lowly to even be graced by Aziraphale's, apparently!

"The room is yours angel! I'll find some where else! And when the corruption sends another one of those monsters into town I won't even think about lifting a hand to help you! You can ask Heaven for help, for all the good it would do!"

He didn't mean it. Every word was just fury and rage, but he spoke them as he stomped across the room to the door.

"Before?"

It occurred to him he might be better off not asking this but, when did he ever do what made him better off?

"Before what?"
blessedarethebookmakers: (unsure)

He let him go. It was remarkably easy in fact, and somewhat of a relief despite the harsh words that hit like stones. it was better this way, honestly. Better the searing light of truth than the fantasy that could never be. That he couldn't allow it to be. For whatever reason and perhaps a hopeless one in the end. Perhaps this was all for nothing. Surely, a part of him said, God would see some use for it. Not that he expected a reward, hardly that. But some sort of --direction. Benchmark. Check box for yes.

He winced slightly as the door slammed and then opened his eyes to a room far too large and far too empty. Nothing he will ever be able to afford on his own and far too luxurious for an angel anyway. He gets out of bed, flexing his wings absently, then, having nowhere else to go, sits in the chair. The bottle of wine surprises him. He'd forgotten it was there.

it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

He drinks it down then, staring into the emptiness, the silence falling all around him.

She squinted at him, trying to figure out how much of that statement was bull. He didn't seem half as much of an asshole as certain beings named after constellations and/or gross drinks, so she just made a low sound of doubt at the back of her throat.

"Okay, but the next time I give you anything it's gonna be in something unbreakable."

Well, he could admit ignorance, or he could bluff and draw out more information. Sadly he could use the kid for this one, as they always made a good team. Even when the kid wasn't aware he was asking the questions Aahz couldn't without blowing the ruse. Still, until he did know more, he had to play this just right.

Which meant no pancake jokes unless he was sure that it would be taken as a joke. Still, there was already a lot to work from. Human suits instead of disguise spells. Planes rather than dimensions. So far, different names for things he already had handled.

IHOP could go either way.

The neighborhoods for the dead thing however... that was interesting. So it was time to roll the dice. "You stop at neighborhoods?"

"Yeah?" Rose is way more curious about the dimensions thing, but she's not about to steer the conversation away from someone's passion. "What happened?"

"Whatever wish Shuichiro wanted," Kohaku said, with complete faith that Shichiro wouldn't ever ask for anything Khoaku wasn't able to do, or willing to.
bigbadrose: (now things are getting real)

"That's silly. That's like saying I'm not a good human," Rose snorted quietly. "You just are one. Maybe his wish was just to stay with you."
takeitsleazy: (would you look at that)

[personal profile] takeitsleazy 2019-07-16 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, sort of. They divide people up based on what suits them best, you know? Cat people, dog people ..." He made a face. "Teacup pig people. Foodies, groupies, Groupon users, you name it, there's probably a neighborhood for it. And some of them are just ... experimental, to see what sort of things happen when you put certain souls together for eternity. Whether they make each other better or worse. Why, what do you do?"

He clasped his hands together with a curious and genial smile. He really did love talking shop, even though he wasn't really sure he could still consider himself an Architect. The dynamics of it all - of the humans - utterly fascinated him, and knowing what other dimensions did would be just as enthralling.
takeitsleazy: (let me use small words for you)

[personal profile] takeitsleazy 2019-07-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." He makes a face, letting the sound trail off into more of a resigned sigh. "It ... didn't go so hot. My supervisor didn't really like how it turned out, and the people I built it for ... they wanted to go somewhere else. But since I'd become their friends, living with them like that? I tried to get them there."

He paused.

"I'm not really supposed to do that. I think you could say I got in - what is it? Deep shirt."
bigbadrose: (Tee-hee!)

[personal profile] bigbadrose 2019-07-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"You," Rose's London accent came in sharper than ever with her excitement, "Are right brilliant, you are! Come on, let's try! If nothing else, we can see what we need instead!"

She didn't completely erupt the blanket fort like a volcano, but she was clearly raring to go.
strangeandunusual: (yes I AM actually smiling.)

[personal profile] strangeandunusual 2019-07-16 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lydia laughed, pushing the blanket back and following Rose to the door. She had completely gone past caring whether or not they had permission to leave the class. After all, wasn't going after ghosts to make friends with them under the umbrella of helping the Kingdom? She was pretty certain it was. And if it wasn't, well, she'd just deal with detention or whatever it was they did as punishment for people who skipped class.

"So are you," she gushed. "I wish I knew how to do that thing you mentioned with the pins. I've seen it in a lot of movies, and it always looks so cool. Does that mean you're a detective, or a spy or something?" Rose didn't look too much older than Lydia, but that didn't necessarily mean anything, not without knowing what kind of place she'd come from. She did, after all, consider herself pretty open-minded.
bigbadrose: (Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?)

[personal profile] bigbadrose 2019-07-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Me," Rose said as naturally as anything, tilting her head as though bemused it could be anything else.

"If he doesn't want me, then that's fine, I'll deal with it. Hardly the first man in my life to get engaged to someone else or need someone different," she snorted quietly, moving her hands, one to prop up a fist to her cheek to lean on and the other doodling circles with her fingers. "But he spent six months looking for anyway at all to get the TARDIS through to me. The goodbye via star hologram was all he could manage. And it was at Bad Wolf Bay for me, so that... I knew... thought I knew it meant I could get back to him. Led me here. Out of my Dad's Universe. Now... I'm not sure." She bit her lip and sought out his eyes. Not as soul-piercing as big-ears', but deep and ancient like her daft puppy's. "Whether it's just... fighting the Darkness, the corruption, or a way back to him."

She wasn't crying, but she was clearly miserable about it.

"Not that I'm not loving this," she laughed softly and squeezed his hand lightly, "Thank you." She glanced sideways, dropping his hand again. "He promised he wouldn't leave me behind and I promised him forever, yeah?" A sigh. "I don't need anythin' specifically it's just...." she chomped her bottom lip in thought. "What's the longest you've ever been without the TARDIS, yeah?"

"That was the idea, yes." He's palpably relieved that she thinks that way, and grins, feeling the bit of anxiety that always crept up when the truth loomed starting to fade. "If I could still see everything, I'd feel a little bit better about leaving them ... but ..."

He shook his head. There wasn't really anything for it, after all.

"Janet, my assistant - no. My best friend - will look after them."

Because they'd come way too far together for him to insult her by calling her anything less.

"Yes," Rose offered Lydia a hand, purely out of habit, even though usually the only person she ran alongside like that was the Doctor, but now that she wasn't a ghost herself...

"Both. I'm field agent Bad Wolf. Spent the last two years traveling as a ghost. And yeah, it was definitely lonely. Even my two best friends couldn't see me, or hear me. I couldn't get their attention even yelling myself hoarse and wavin' my hands like crazy. I thought I was pretty skilled on this whole corruption and darkness thing, but my universe doesn't have magic, I'm not sayin' it's impossible, but I can't really get my brain to click with it just yet, yeah? Have you ever met ghosts before, or is it just some lifelong dream? Not many who don't want to run away from ghosts, but to them instead."
bigbadrose: (Being cute!)

[personal profile] bigbadrose 2019-07-16 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever teacher they have cannot possibly have as much of the right kind of information as this man here, so Rose just ditches her seat entirely and moves to sit on top of the empty desk next to him. "Tell me about the nine dimensions? If you can? I think I know the first five maybe? Point, line, depth, time, and choice??? Okay, not so sure on that. I was rubbish in maths and science. Thing is though," she hopped off the desk into a chair, leaning backwards on it so she could rest her elbows on the desk and peer up at him, not even consciously trying to be cute, but definitely a little disarming out of habit like when she wanted something from her father or the Doctor.

"I've been traveling dimensions lately, just before coming here. I know I've been 2-D, and without sound and stuff, but I've been doing it all very blind. Just human, me. Determined human, but still--" a vague gesture to everything around them. "Fumbling in the dark."
strangeandunusual: (okay - I believe you)

She took it and ran along without question, loving the thought of a friend closer to her own age who would actually want to have fun, to explore, not to just lurk around outside record stores and navel gaze while trying to bum cloves off of older teenagers. New York had been good for baby goth Lydia to get her feet wet, but really, she had a feeling she cared a little more than the average goth, and they would have all outed her eventually.

"My two best friends at home are ghosts," she grinned as they pelted toward New Orleans Square. "Adam and Barbara. They owned the house before my Dad bought it, but they died in a car accident, so now they haunt it. They're both really nice. Kind of like having ghosts for an aunt and uncle. Adam makes these really amazing detailed models of stuff - they have a giant one of their whole town in the attic. I bet he'd love to try making a model of this place. I've only really done one magic thing, and that was kind of a big mistake. But not really. I was trying to help them, and ... it's a long story. But I think this magic is a lot different than what was in the Handbook, anyway."

She was so happy to have someone to talk to that she hadn't really realized it was the most she'd said at once to anyone in weeks.
takeitsleazy: (well HEY!)

[personal profile] takeitsleazy 2019-07-16 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," he says, thoroughly - how would Tahani put it? chuffed - that she wanted to learn from him, of all people, "you've got a decent start to it, but -" a friendly chortle that was meant to disarm just as much as her cuteness, "-you're also seriously really, really wrong. I mean - choice? That's not a dimension, it's a concept. Look, just ... treat your brain like an Etch-a-Sketch and shake your head around a bit."

He waited patiently for her to, you know, actually do it.

"I mess up every spell I try, even the simple ones. And stuck like this I'm little and chubby and useless," Kohaku said, sadly. "And I've brought all kinds of trouble to his house. I don't think that was his wish at all." But Kohaku's own wish was that it was.

See this is where the kid would ask if that meant people who were cats, he'd tell the kid to shut up while watching the other person's reaction. Still, he could roll with it.

"Oh I dabble. Little bit of this, little bit of that. Mostly... I'm a problem solver. I get called in on the... trickier cases."
