Rules | FAQ | Premise | Applications

"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

I. Exploring Main Street! Take a trip through a little town taken straight from 1890's America. Visit the shops, dine at the restaurants- but don't forget you are here on a mission. As an Apprentice, you will need to gather some supplies. A weapon, or tool for producing magic.

But we understand if that corn dog cart on Market Street is your first stop.

II. Apprentice Class 101! Practice your spell casting and weaponship on the open commons behind the Firehouse. Sparring, casting or just general confusion abound here. Try not to hit anything or...anyone, the paint on the infirmary is still drying.

III. Look out! A level 2 corroded monster has managed to get onto Main Street! Protect the citizens and defeat the cur, and please watch the damage, the paint is still wet!

IV. One Little Spark! Go ahead, show us the strength of your imagination and come up with your own scenarios. Just, stay out of the Corroded Lands...if possible.

"Demons from Perv!?"

Ok, he might have said the name of the species correctly but he has to laugh now.

"Get out! You're pulling my wing! Your people aren't really called that?"

"Yeah, seeing a few problems with this plan," she said smirking, hands on her hips. "Let's start with if I find him, how do I let you know? And Let's continue with what happens if you find him and I don't?"

Sylvando took note of the creatures lurking in wait, but thought that he could finish off the first one before they came into it too. "Thanks for the tip," he said. "I'll just have to take this one out in a hurry, then."

And indeed, if Az looked back, he'd see that Sylvando didn't look to be in need of much sacrificing. He danced nimbly out of the way of the monster's claws before lunging in to strike himself, stabbing or slicing into the monster's body, and firing off the occasional taunt to keep its attention on him rather than turning it on any of the unarmed citizens. Before long, it looked as though he had the monster on the ropes, with one more good strike likely to finish it off.

Unfortunately, this was about when one of the other creatures decided to join the fray, a serpentine looking one slinking toward him from behind. And it seemed that SYlvando, occupied with the first monster, hadn't noticed it approaching...

"Pervects? Yes, we actually are." He grinned. "Beats the %@!* out of some of the other dimension names out there, though." He grinned. "The kid, Skeeve? He's a Khlad. Klah is a &*@# of a place to get trapped for a decade, let me tell you. What they call ale isn't fit to wash in."

He drank it anyhow, he just complained the whole time.

"Hey... who needs a tavern? There are a couple cafes out here, and even if they don't need singers, you can just sing on a street corner! Toss a hat down for tips, and there you go! No venue needed! The money'll come rolling in, pure profit!"

Fenton didn't know how skilled the guy was at singing, but it was the enthusiasm that was important, right?

Fenton instinctively caught what was thrown at him, only to do a double-take and yelp when he realized just what he was holding. He risked a glance back, and yup. That sword was STILL coming after him. "No, no.... stop! Please?"

He tripped and crashed to the ground, the sword swooshing just over his head. He brought up the paper in a futile effort to shield himself... then remembered just what he was holding... and hurriedly tossed the paper to the side, log-rolling away in the other direction. With a heavy 'thunk', the sword finally embedded itself into the paper target, and about a good inch or two into the pavement as well.

Fenton lay there for a second, panting heavily from all the adrenaline, then finally sat up. He directed a glare over at Magica, pointing accusingly. "This is low, even for you, Magica! Someone could have gotten hurt! .... Killed, even!"

III. Monsters, oh my!

The monster just roars, but Fenton sure does have it's attention. And Jose is facepalming behind one of the still in tact benches. Really, were all ducks like this or just ones that he ran into.

He sighed and looked at the umbrella in his hand.

Destroying those things was the quickest way to get back home. Back to his friends and back to a normal life. And back where he didn't have to use magic anymore.

"Meh, maybe I still remember how to do this?"

Standing up, he leaned on the umbrella, and gave a sharp whistle.

"The patinho is right. There is no need for trashing the place. If you do not stop, he will, as he said, teach you some lessons."
smilingarmor: (Happy)

[personal profile] smilingarmor 2019-06-23 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Then as I said, I'll help him replace them, if he asks," Sylvando said. "Though really, once people start practicing magic here, we may all have to lose our attachments to the landscaping. Even a simple Frizz gone astray would do far worse than this to the shrubbery."

"As to why I'm training, well, you know what they say; use it or lose it," he said. "Wouldn't want my skills or my sword to get rusty, you know."

"Well... we'll find something else, then! Maybe an old coffee cup?" Fenton rushes over to the nearest garbage can, rooting through it a little before pulling out a - thankfully - fairly unsoiled paper coffee cup. "There we go! So now we just pick out a good spot. One with a lotta traffic moving through, to get as many people as possible. Near the Emporium, maybe?"

Re: I. It's always money problems...

[personal profile] beancounter 2019-06-23 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" Fenton agreed enthusiastically. "I mean... I'm not against the idea of helping people! Even helping protect people for free... it's what heroes DO." He clammed up for a moment, afraid he'd possibly said too much. After all, he, plain ol' Fenton Crackshell, wasn't supposed to be any sort of real hero. He felt just the teensiest bit conflicted. As Gizmoduck, he helped people without any question; that's just what a hero did. But as Gizmoduck he was ALSO hired - and paid (a paltry wage because this was Scrooge McDuck you're talking about but a wage nonetheless) to be a security guard, and protecting the city was a part of that sometimes. His head hurt a little, trying to work out the two conflicting ideals.

He let out a sigh. "I'm not against helping people. But if they expect us to pay for all sorts of things just in order to live? You're right. If they're dragging us here, against our choice, to really work FOR them, in protecting them, then... yeah. That's a job, so they should pay us for that!"

Fenton glanced over at Jose, his expression immediately melting into one of relief. Oh good! Someone else here that could help him! Two against one were much better odds! He backed up a few steps, inching towards where Jose was.

"Yeah! You're outnumbered now, so you'd better get back before we..." He paused, blinked, then turned around to look at Jose. "Hey! Whaddya mean 'he'? I mean me? You're going to help, right?!"

The monster apparantly either couldn't care less, or was growing bored with this all, or both, and just roared again, swatting at a mailbox with one massive claw, sending it flying towards the two. Fenton scrambled out of the way, tumbling a little before getting back on his feet.

"Okay! You asked for it, now!" He jabbed his wand at the beast, waggling it in the air. "Back, back you foul beast! Back, and... ....ahhh.... bother us the least!" Okay, so rhyming spells weren't his strongest suit. But it worked. Sort of. Briefly. The spell had the effect of rolling the monster onto it's back, where it's legs waved uselessly in the air for a moment... but the effect didn't last long, and the monster rolled back over onto its feet, letting out an annoyed roar. They definitely had it's attention, now.

Was he going to help?

"That...was a strange spell." Rhyming. The parrot scratched his head a bit, wincing a little when the monster was swiped off his feet. So rhyming worked. But not for long.

And now the monster was looking at both of them. He gave a small huff, "I am guessing that now I am going to have to help." He tugged the umbrella up, holding it tightly.

"Ah." Charming...ah! He grinned and turned towards Fenton, tapping his shoulder lightly with the tip of the umbrella, "Sim! You teach that monster a thing or three, yes? You have done it already! Put a bit of rhythm into your rhyme, amigo!"

There, hopefully that confidence boost would work, if not? Well!

Ooh, now that was clever! And it certainly seemed to have gotten the monster's attention, as it turned to growl at the new apparent threat.

Which gave Sylvando time to adjust the angle of his strike so the blow would deal more damage. He lunged, bringing his sword down in a sweeping strike across the monster's left flank, cutting a long gash and causing it to yowl in pain. He danced nimbly out of the way of its claws as it turned to retaliate, the move made somewhat clumsy by its injury.

"Ooh, he didn't like that!", Slyvando said, grinning. "Think you can grab his attention again, darling?"

Sylvando did spin, but it was a bit too nimble of a move to have been really forced. "Well I didn't want to overdo it if you were new at this," he said. "But since you insist..."

Sylvando struck again, much quicker and much more precisely this time, and with a surprising amount of strength for his build. Though he was still smiling, he was clearly no longer simply playing. Malcolm wanted to see what someone trained by Don Rodrigo could do? He would get his wish.

Re: (The Great) Sylvando | Dragon Quest XI

[personal profile] smilingarmor 2019-06-23 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Sylvando ducked away as the creature moved to take a bite out of him, but then saw another apple whizz by and fly right into the creature's mouth. It was slightly off target this time and didn't get stuck in the creature's throat as she'd perhaps hoped, but its impact against the back of the monsters throat triggered a gag reflex.

And the brief fit of gagging and coughing gave Sylvando just the opening he needed. With the creature thoroughly distracted, he slashed out with his sword, cutting deeply into its right front leg. Combined with the force of its coughing, the now off-balance creature staggered, trying to rebalance itself on three legs.

"Good shot!," he called out to her. "A few more like that, and we've got this in the bag!"

Sylvando grinned as the young man joined in on the lute, stepping up his dance routine to go along with it. By now they'd attracted a decent sized audience, and a few of them were even clapping in time to the song. "Keep it up, darling! You've got this!", he said.

I.

"You got that right," the short green demon agreed. "Both to them owing us for this, and to the need for an accountant. I used to tell the kid, a good army runs on two things more than anything else, their stomach and their wallets. Of course, given the state of things, the kid's more than learned that lesson." He shook his head. "I'm planning to have... words... with the people who called us here, about certain missing items and the aforementioned payment." He grinned which showed of sharp four inch fangs. "And while some might go for petitions, I always felt showing up with a mob in hand makes more of an impression than any non-legally binding paper. What say you round up some of the more impressive people you can find and we'll make sure we get paid." Another terrifying grin as his gold eyes shone.

"Maybe even start up a business for them to hire, rather than a mob." he winked.

"Well I certainly don't intend to use it." Though he can't help but smile a little as he goes to join his...companion. It's a bit difficult to get settled on the bench with wings in the way, but he manages, and never mind that their feathers are brushing against one another. It just can't be helped.

"I wasn't really keen on it the first time around. Not when I got the gist of it." They hadn't been entirely happy about that either; letting a demon sneak into the garden and being too late to thwart it. Oh well...

"I hardly wanted to use it for my side. Let alone theres." Though someone has made quite a nice little rain cloud. He hopes they don't get zapped by the thunder lacing around it because he is all out of healing at the moment.
